The Box League Weekly Update!

Hello everyone and welcome to your weekly update of the box leagues! With us now closer to the end of the rotation than the start you’d think positions in the boxes would be starting to become apparent, but in pretty much every box it’s still anyone’s game!

Keep up the momentum guys! Still 2 weeks to go!

Box 9

Sophia continues to make strides in box 9 with a 3-0 victory over Angus Mackay. In a match between 2 players who were looking for nice long rallies concentrating on finding their length, it all came down to the error count. Sophia kept her cool and walked away with the 5 points, Angus will be looking to make a comeback soon!

Angela Hopkinson makes her debut into the rotation with a close victory over Janine (3-2). In a match well salted with profanities and offensive outbursts from Janine…to herself…this match between two well matched players eventually went to Angela after a tight 5th game which could have gone either way!

Box 8

Archie Niven v Kirsten (0-3)

In Scott’s first recorded match of the year he clocks up a 3-1 victory over young Archie Niven, who’s game has really been coming along in recent months! Scott puts his win down to playing the length game well and taking the safe shot to keep the pressure on. Tiredness nearly let him down though, and he’ll be working on keeping the focus on through the rest of his box matches!

Box 5

Ben Anderson makes his debut into the rotation with a difficult match against Pravin Surianarayanan. Pravin puts his victory (3-0) down to luck, with Ben unable to play to his full potential after bursting the strings on his racket meant borrowing a spare from the front desk. But knowing Pravin, his cool composure is as likely a cause as any! Props to Ben for fighting through on a borrowed racket though, and with the scorelines in the games being more even than the final result suggests the rest of the box had better watch out! These two are both strong contenders!

Pravin augments his position in box 5 with a win over Paul (3-2) with a dramatic finish, the last game going to 19-17!

Box 4

Box 4 keeps up the momentum with a 3-0 win for Andy Cramb over Fraser Thomson. Not detracting from Andy’s game, Fraser put his defeat, ultimately, down to his poor positioning, and lack of movement, things he’ll be working on for his next game.

Box 3

In a match described by both players as scrappy in the extreme, Graham Beveridge takes his first box match at Scotstoun 3-2 against Paul Wynne. Paul (playing the person he thought he would be playing this time!) described the bitter 13-15 loss in the 5th as coming down to scrappy play and loose shots to the centre of the court. Paul maintains his position at the top, but for how much longer, with Graham on the scene now?

Not much is the answer! Graham bags himself another 5 points, this time off the back of a 3-0 victory over Ben Dreyer. Graham puts it down to being more consistent in his play, hitting the straight lines and subsequently holding the T much more effectively.

Box 1

Tom Blakeman joins the fray up in box 1 with a victory over Craig Rothnie (3-1)
