The Box League Weekly Update!

Welcome back to another weekly update Eagles! We’re now coming to the end of week 4 of this rotation and things are getting feisty!

There are now only 4 weeks left in this rotation folks, plenty of time to get your games in, but it’s time to start thinking about getting started if you haven’t already!

in Box 2 Paul Wynne has already played all of his games following 2 more this week. Unfortunately both ended in defeats, first to Taso (3-0) and then to Jonny (3-0). This leaves Paul with enough points to claim 2nd place, but he won’t be holding his position for long I fear. All it would take is for any of the others below him in the box to play each other and the victor would instantly jump above him. Paul will undoubtedly be turning his attention to club champs and very much pouring every effort into reaching the finals!

Box 3 sees its first game of the rotation, with a victory for Brian over Edith in a 5 game thriller! Edith managed to take the fist 2 games relatively comfortably, but ultimately fell to Brian after 2 very close games and a tie breaker that went Brian’s way. There are some very big names in this box and both Edith and Brian will be fighting hard to maintain position! Perhaps having peoples focus directed on club champs could play to their favour!

In box 7 Archie leap-frogs Scott to take 1st place after a 3-2 belter against Garry Wotherspoon. The newcomer isn’t far behind him however, with a victory over Scott already recorded, he has every chance of chasing Archie up to the finish line in 4 weeks time!

In box 9 the running order is starting to become apparent after Angela takes another win, this time over Janine (3-1), putting her well clear of Hugh in 2nd place. Hugh is making every effort to stay on Angela’s heels however, recording a 3-0 win over Paula to keep him in 2nd place, but his game in hand will not be enough to catch Angela yet. It’s going to be the games against Angus and Gordon that define the results of this box! Alex is also making himself known and is definitely not out of the race for a promotion spot, with 2 games in hand and some interesting matches coming up, he too could be the wild card that topples Angela’s reign at the top!

Box 10 also finds itself in a very interesting situation. Ann has taken a 3-0 win off of Raghbir, meaning that now all of the currently active participants have played each other, and the probable final positions have been made clear. Ann is currently 3 points clear up at the top, with Elisa in 2nd place a comfortable 5 points ahead of Raghbir, and Bal in 4th 4 points behind Raghbir. With all 4 now only needing to play the remaining 2 players in the box, it could all come down to who gets their games in and who doesn’t. But if all games are played, it’s really now just a battle for 2nd place as Ann sits comfortably in an unassailable position in the promotion zone!

The Box League Weekly Update!

The games have started flowing folks! The lower boxes have properly gotten into their stride and are starting to get interesting!

Don’t forget to sign up for Club Champs 2019 on Sporty HQ! latest entry is 3pm Saturday 20th!

Elisa is making a dramatic entrance to the mixed boxes with a pair of wins over first Bal (3-0) and then Raghbir (3-0), taking her to 1st place and 9 points clear of the rest of the pack! I can see plenty of opportunity though for the rest of that box, and 1st place is by no means guaranteed for the newcomer!

Angela gets herself off to a similar flying start in Box 9 with another win, this time against Alex (3-1), but with points to her opponents for the games she dropped, things are even more up for grabs there. In particular I can’t see Alex being content with 3rd place! It’s gonna get feisty!

The real upset so far is in box 7, where Scott flying high off of his win against Mr Ramsay thought he’d have an easy time of it! It was not to be though, with another newcomer, Garry putting him right in his place with a 3-2 victory! Archie Niven also stakes his claim to position in the box with a win over David Naylor. So far Scott is hanging on to 1st place thanks to the 2 games he took off of Garry, but it’s by the fingernails! Both Garry and Archie are going to be gunning for that top spot, and with a game in hand each, Scott is going to have to pull something special out of the bag!

Angela is back! Can she be stopped?! This time with a 3-2 win over Paula, taking her an incredible 12 points clear at the top of the box! The only thing now separating what was left behind from Angela’s storming rampage to the top of the box is that both Paula and Hugh managed to take 2 games from her before she ran off into the sunset! Can any of them catch up?! Hugh is certainly making a go of it, a 3-0 win against Janine keeps him within touching distance of Angela, but both of them have some tough matches ahead!

Robyn is once again picking up points, this time leaving Alaisdair by the wayside, in a 3-1 victory making it clear that she won’t be pushed aside easily as she keeps on charging towards the top boxes and a proper challenge!

Box 10 is getting interesting! The tussle for second place has begun behind Elisa with Ann taking a 3-1 win over the newcomer (goan yer sel Ann!) and Raghbir bounces back from his defeat against Elisa to take a 3-0 win over Bal. The extra game played keeps Raghbir a point clear of Ann but things are definitely going to be interesting going forward!

Archie Niven is making it clear that his win over David was no fluke, taking an other win, this time a 3-2 slog against Scott. Scott must be starting to feel that shoogly peg wobble as Archie comes racing up behind him. Scott is going to need the wins in his 2 remaining games to keep himself relatively comfortable!

Box 2 is getting interesting too with Mr Treon beginning to pull ahead of the pack after taking a 3-0 win from Jonny. Craig Bennet throws his hat in the ring, with a 3-2 thriller against Mr Wynne, this pulls him up to share 2nd place in the box but with a game in hand he certainly has the advantage. This one could just come down to who gets their games played in time!

In a crushing blow for me, Ben takes first blood in Box 4! if it weren’t for the fact I managed to salvage a game i’d be distraught! Nonetheless Ben takes the lead in Box 4 while I trial behind with my 2 points!

Spoke too soon! It’s not over yet this week for Box 10! Ann clocks in a 3-0 victory over Bal to take her just 2 point shy of the top spot and with a game in hand. This is going to be a tight box!

The Box League Weekly Update!

Coming to you one day early (you lucky ducks!) here comes your weekly roundup of the battles for position in the boxes!

It is now the end of week 2 of the rotation everybody! With Just 6 weeks to go, now is the time to think about setting up those games to make sure you don’t have to cram them all in at the end and risk missing out on those juicy bonus points!

Last week I played a warm up match against Robyn before her trip over to Dublin for the 5 nations, where she represented Scotland. I came out victorious….Just! Normally I’d keep my voice down about having beaten a 12 year old, and even more so had I lost! But it was a seriously close match! All of this means I can sympathise completely with Andy Cramb who fell to Robyn’s vicious precision in Box 5. The rest of the guys in that box are going to have a seriously hard time to anything other than battle for second place! At 3-2 the match was hardly a walkover, but persistence and endless stamina, Robyn is a real threat!

Angela is also making a splash down in Box 9 with a win over friend and Box League newcomer Hugh. Hugh joined the boxes on Angela’s recommendation and may be feeling a bit miffed that the first thing she did was take him to the cleaners! It’s a tough box for this pair, and I think they’ll have to fight hard to keep a hold of 1st and 2nd places. There is one more wild card in the form of Gordon Marquis who is also new to the boxes and could throw a racket in the works to upset the whole set-up, but lets wait and see!

Up at the top end of the boxes the Pauls throw down as Mr Treon battles to regain his position in box one that he lost at the end of last rotation. A 3-1 victory against Mr Wynne is certainly a good step in the right direction but this will be another tough box, with Taso making his reappearance and everybody else hungry to challenge the guys up in box 1!

Things are getting interesting down in Box 7 with Archie taking a win over David Naylor to secure joint 1st place with Scott. I can see these two battling for dominance over the course of this rotation, but it’s going to be tight with a lot of keen individuals sharing the box!

The Box League Weekly Update!

Welcome one and all to a brand new rotation!

I’m going to be doing something a little different for the weekly updates this time around. Rather than a match by match account, which towards the end of the rotations can take about 90 minutes a day to pull together, I’m going to do a more general overview of where people are sitting within the boxes and the dramas around them getting there! If anyone wants to get in touch and give feedback on their matches I’ll be extremely grateful, but I’ll be a lot less on the ball about sending out requests for comment, unless it was a particularly influential match for standings in the respective box.

That being said, off we go!

Week one has been a quite one with just the one game played in the two days available. Box 7 sees its first tie breaker of the rotation, between Scott and Ramsay. It’s early days but I’m expecting to see a lot of tight results in the very evenly matched box 7!

It’s New Rotation Time!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls! Roll up! Roll up! It’s time….for a brand new box league rotation!

Congratulations to you all on a great rotation!

We had 3 boxes complete every single one off their matches and several more very close behind. We had a few stragglers making the last week a real flurry of results, and pretty much changing the final positions in every single box on a daily basis! Not to mention that the final point counts came out very close all across the league, showing some healthy competition and a real drive to catch those points!

We’re saying farewell for now to several players not returning to the next rotation, several to injury and several more to exams (good luck!), and even a few to leaving the country. We’ll hopefully see them back at the club in the future!

We are however saying hello to some new players! Welcome, make yourself at home, get those games in and enjoy!

And welcome back to another couple, back from injury and chomping at the bit to prove themselves!

This next rotation is going to be 7 weeks long ending on Firday 24th of May, so plenty of time for all of your box matches, and a challenge match along the way as well for those hoping to climb the ladder in the teams! This will also to take into account all of those lovely Easter Holidays (you lucky bunch!).

With the Club champs also going on during this period, make sure you get your games in early so there isn’t a critical shortage of courts, ye be warned!
